Today’s Sandwich: Steak & Cheese (Fresh Approach)
by Malcolm on October 14, 2010

Location: 155 Brackett Street
Price: $4.99 (on special)
Notes: The giant chalkboard sign outside screaming “Steak and Cheese! $4.99!” did its job, and lured me in. I am consistently impressed by the level of guilt-inducing quality that Fresh Approach is able to crank out using just one tiny electric skillet, an amazing meat counter, and a total disregard for my health and well-being. This Steak & Cheese keeps it simple, and doesn’t muck around with onions, peppers, or God forbid, mushrooms, though I did race home like a rat to add pickled jalapenos. The cheese is boldly, proudly of the “Whiz” variety, and dolloped on top like little nuclear orange chunks of nutritionless joy. Served on a whisper-soft, quadruple-enriched white flour bun, this sandwich is as close to perfect as a sandwich in its class can hope to be. I could actually hear my blood trying to move through my body as I ate it.

Bonus info! Fresh Approach is now serving chilis and soups out of Crockpots during lunchtime, all Fall and Winter long, at around $3.50 a cup.
