New Project: Tasty Giveaways

New Project: Tasty Giveaways

by Malcolm Bedell on January 16, 2013

Hey everybody! We didn’t manage to cook anything today, because we’ve been busy developing a new website that we hope you’ll like. Here’s the short pitch:

As we surf around from food blog to food blog looking for inspiration, we were noticing that more and more sites seem to be able to offer sponsored giveaways, with prizes ranging from simple $5 Starbucks gift cards, all the way up through entire All-Clad cookware sets, or that favorite coveted item of cooks everywhere, the KitchenAid standing mixer. This is awesome news, because it means that food blogs are reaching a tipping point where they are considered truly vital opportunities for companies to get their message to consumers. Giveaways are great deal all the way around; we’ve even been doing a few of them ourselves here on From Away.

As I noticed the overall volume of prizes and giveaways on other sites going up, it got me thinking: Isn’t it time that food blog giveaways had their own website, where people could visit and see at-a-glance what their favorite food bloggers were giving away on their sites at any given moment? I thought so.

So, I started one.

It’s a win/win. Readers get an easy way to see who’s giving away what all in one place, on a clean, easy-on-the-eyes site, complete with at-a-glance looks at the prize value, entry details, and giveaway expiration date, followed by a direct link to the site’s giveaway page. Food bloggers who promote their giveaways on TastyGiveaways receive some extra traffic to their promotion, as well. Best of all, it’s totally free for everyone involved.

If you get some time today, check out TastyGiveaways. We thought it was important to give our From Away readers the first peek at the new site. There are only a few giveaways listed right now (we’re still working on the final details of the site), but we’ll be adding more every day. And when a giveaway ends, it will automatically vanish from the site. Of course, if any fellow food bloggers want to list their giveaway on our site to help us get going, we’d love for you to send your submission either by sending a tweet to @TastyGiveaways, leaving a note on the TastyGiveaways Facebook page, or by submitting the details of your giveaway by email here.

Thanks for reading and for helping to spread the word, and we hope TastyGiveaways becomes a great resource for both readers and bloggers. Click here to visit Tasty Giveaways now!

About the Author:

My first memories of cooking start in Maine at six years old, when I wore a yellow rainslicker to avoid getting spattered by the bacon I was frying in a skillet. My interest in both Mexican cooking and recreating classic New England dishes from scratch developed while living in Mexico, on a steady diet of pork and habanero peppers. You can see more of my writing and photography online on Serious Eats, the Huffington Post, BlogHer, and Foodista, as well as in print for Downeast, Indulge, and Cigar Snob magazines.
